My boyfriend and I have been dating for two years now and we have had our share of misunderstandings, but we have always been able to get past them. However, I have gained about 15 pounds over the course of our relationship and now he says he just isn’t attracted to me like he used to be. He says that if I could lose the weight we have a real chance of making it together. I don’t know what to do. I love him more than I thought I could even after that, but I know he is being a real jerk. I never want to be without him so I am trying to lose the weight. Am I wrong for that? Please help me.

This isn’t a question of right or wrong, it’s about your happiness in the long run. If he puts this kind of condition on you now, what will he do later? If you want to lose the 15 pounds because you’ll feel happier and healthier, go ahead. Then pay close attention to what he does next to show you that he is not ready for a committed relationship. I suggest you start having some serious conversations with each other and see if you both can develop a more mature basis for a lasting relationship. Topics for conversations are suggested in lots of my posts on my Relationship Advice Blog at http://www.RelationshipHQ.co/blog and you can find more at http://www.BeingHappyBook.com . See what happens and then make a decision about whether you want to stay with him. Good luck. Dr Laurie
